Arts & Crafts

Fabulous Family Fun with Wood
For ages 7+. Registration of a paying adult required with participants under 16. Talk about having some quality family bonding time! We’ll create lots of different and creative projects with wood that your whole family can have fun with. There’s something here for everyone. Supplies and equipment are provided during class. Karate (Intermediate/Ongoing)

The Doctor Is In

Lee Takes Command
Experience Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s Richmond on the 150th anniversary of him taking command of his famous Army of Northern Virginia. This three-day event is co-sponsored with the Museum of the Confederacy. Information: 652-3411.

Lee Takes Command Lecture
For all ages. Civil War author and historian Dr. Emory Thomas will examine Lee as a man and a general. This lecture is co-sponsored by the Museum of the Confederacy and the Virginia War Memorial. A Dinner With Lee

Lee Takes Command: A Walking Tour
For ages 12+. Registration of a paying adult is required with children under 18. Enjoy a walking tour of Lee’s most frequently visited sites in the City of Richmond and Henrico County before he took command of the Army of Northern Virginia in 1862. Tour includes Dabbs House Museum, White House of the Confederacy, The Stewart-Lee House, Virginia’s State Capitol, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, and others. Tour requires lengthy walking or standing. Fee includes bus transportation, admission fees, and a box lunch.

Beyond Bedcoverings

Seven Pines Cemetery Commemoration
For all ages. Join Dabbs House historians as they recount the aftermath of the Battle of Seven Pines 150 years after the pivotal battle ended at the gates of Richmond. Hear about the families, homes, and land that made up the battle ground in which the town of Sandston now sits. Learn about several of the individuals that rest on this truly hallowed ground. A ceremony to honor those who lost their lives during the battle will follow. Information: 652-3409.

Stuart’s Ride Commemoration Event
For all ages. It’s the 150th anniversary of Stuart’s Ride around McClellan’s Federal Army! Experience the meeting between Generals Lee and Stuart that led up to the Seven Days Battles. Enjoy living history, a re-creation of the meeting, and take part in a question and answer time with Lee and Stuart interpreters. Period music, children’s activities, Civil War re-enactors, and tours also provided. Information: 652-3409.

Pest Management: 19th-Century Style
For all ages. In June of 1860, Mrs. Sheppard purchased netting from Chiles & Chennery in Richmond. Find out how this netting was used to manage pests and keep furniture looking new. Information: 501-2130.

The Fruits of Their Labor

The Company Store

Rugged Reptiles: Turtles
For all ages. Most people think turtles move slowly through life, taking their time as they march across the land. Many species, however, can be lightning fast. Open Gym: Family Fun Time
For all ages. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Attention parents! Bring your kids out for some Family Fun Time. Every Sunday our gym will be set up with a different sport each week, as well as activities such as ping pong, billiards, air hockey, and foosball. Participants will be required to sign a liability waiver provided on site and an open gym access card will be issued. For ages 10+. Pickleball has been described as a fun blend of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. The sport is played using a paddle and a plastic wiffle ball on a badminton-sized court. Let’s Play Pickleball
Pickleball is sweeping Henrico County! Pickleball courts are located throughout the County at Sandston Recreation Area, Hungary Creek Middle School, and Moody Middle School. For more information on pickleball, call Aaron Reidmiller at 290-0305.

For ages 13+. What better way to spend a Sunday than playing volleyball. Whether you haven’t played in a while, or you practice every week, we will have two courts available for drop-in play. Apple Picking at Carter Mountain
For ages 8+. Registration of paying adult is required with children under 18. Nothing beats the sweet taste of a freshly picked apple in the fall. Join us as we travel to Carter Mountain Orchard to pick apples fresh from the tree. Enjoy a lunch stop at Michie Tavern and exploring time in downtown Charlottesville.
